Planning a wedding is such an exciting step whether you’ve always dreamt of donning a gorgeous white dress or not. But getting to plan quite possibly the biggest party of your life is no mean feat – like any event, there are so many different elements to think of from venues and catering to the little things like table plans and to favour or not to favour (and of course all the other dreamy details you stumble across over on Pinterest you just have to have). So we’ve put together a few pointers to help you start off on the right foot – here are 10 wedding planning tips to help you get organized!
1. Pinterest
Pinterest is one of the bride’s best tools to help get organized! Your own virtual little mood boards, you can add images to different boards you create to keep track of schemes and ideas you like. And it will come in handy when it comes to showing the likes of your florist or baker what style you’re after. It is also worth signing up to Instagram, another visual tool that helps you admire pretty images – and can be great for inspiration and wedding ideas.

2. List Making
Never under-estimate the power of a good list! There are some people that were born list-makers and love it and know just how therapeutic it can be, freeing your mind from a constant stream of reminders, but for those of you that aren’t, making lists can be a good habit to get in to. You can jot down your ever-changing to-do lists so help you keep on top of things and of course there’s the satisfaction of drawing a line through a task when it’s done. There are lots of pretty wedding planners out there – we just love this one from Etsy.
3. Email Account
You’re going to be doing a lot of emailing over the course of your wedding planning so it’s a good idea to set up a specific account (for example saraandrickwedding@gmail.com) or a folder within your personal email account just for wedding emails. This way you have all your emails from suppliers in the one safe place that is easy to access. Setting up a dedicated wedding account will also come in handy for RSVPs too!
4. Checklist
There are going to be lots of tasks for you to tackle along the way – downloading a wedding planning checklist will keep you on track. It will outline all your tasks at various stages of the planning so you have an idea of what to work on.
5. Reminders
Your free time will be jammed with different appointments and showcases so be sure to mark them in a diary, pop the time and date in the little calendar on your phone or set yourself a reminder so you know what you’ve attended and when.
6. Divide Tasks
Sharing is caring! There are so many tasks when it comes to planning a wedding – getting your partner involved will not only make it a fun experience for you both, but it means you can each concentrate on the things that matter to you the most. And it will save time if you’re both pitching in!
7. Communicate
Make sure you and your OH communicate – while he or she may not want to talk flowers and rings every night, setting a budget you’re both okay with and letting the other person know developments (actually car is now booked), will keep you on the same page and prevent double-jobbing and possibly fights.
8. Spreadsheets
With so many different deposits and balances to be paid, you could be forgiven for thinking you’re entitled to an accounting degree by the time the Big Day rolls around! There will be a lot of sums to do along the way so set up a spreadsheet for all your finances to help you keep on top of things.
9. Think Ahead
This may be a little on the tough side with oh a trillion different projects on the go but if you can, think ahead of little things that could hold you up. For example, invites going out next week? That means you’ll need addresses (hi mom) and stamps so stock up early so you can get them out on time! Also, take note of important dates such as the deadline for registering for a marriage license and documents that you need to submit for your ceremony. Popping a note on the fridge as a reminder will be a little life saver when the time comes.
10. Book Early
Give yourself plenty of time when it comes to booking your suppliers – you don’t want to set your heart on a particular band or videographer, only to hear they booked out three months ago. Getting the suppliers you want first time round will also save you time, as you won’t have to research suppliers all over again!
