Be My Bridesmaid? 9 Chic & Creative Ways to Ask!

One of the first things you’ll probably do after you get engaged is ask friends if they would do the honour of being your bridesmaid on the big day. Of course actually asking a good friend to help you plan your wedding – as well as to be there throughout the day to hold your hand and make sure your lipstick is topped up  – is a huge deal in itself, some brides-to-be want to mark the occasion by doing it creatively. There are so many fun ways to ‘pop the question’ to your future bridesmaid(s), from cute cards to sweet treats, here’s some of our favourites to inspire you…

1. This pretty hand-painted handkerchief is a simple way to pop the question and will make a beautiful keepsake for your maid(s) for years to come. There are so many ways to present this too – how about taking the girls to lunch and having the handkerchief placed neatly in their glasses? Or maybe have the plates sitting on top? Whatever way you decide to display this pretty vintage-inspired piece, your bridesmaids will cherish it forever. BHLDN.com

3. A great option for budget brides, this gorgeous ‘Will you be my bridesmaid’ graphic is actually a free printable from the fabulous girls at weddingchicks.com. There are plenty of gorgeous bridesmaid cards available online, but if you’re willing to do a bit of DIY, this graphic makes for a beautiful card that your girls will love. The colours are interchangeable so that you can match the card to your palette, and you can change ‘bridesmaid’ to ‘maid of honor’ or ‘flower girl’ with the click of a mouse! weddingchicks.com

4.  If you fancy yourself as a bit of a baker, these adorable DIY cupcakes could be the sweetest way to pop the question to your bridesmaids. These are an affordable way to make your girls feel even more special, and the free ‘Let them eat cake’ printable is available from marrythis.com.

5. This super cute ‘Be my Bridesmaid’ box is all about the effort you put in to it. But when it’s a brown paper package tied up with string it’s even more appealing, don’t you think?! This package is a great DIY project for the bride – print out some old photos, add some bits and pieces from home and of course, pop in a ‘Be my bridesmaid’ card and you have it! 8. If you want to buy your friends a piece of jewellery, it’s best to go for something cute and inexpensive – you don’t want them to feel pressurized into being bridesmaid if they really can’t of course! That’s why these simple, chic friendship bracelets are the perfect choice of something sparkly to help you ask your girls. Of course you could make ribbon tied bracelets yourself, and pop them into a ‘Be my Bridesmaid’ card! Notonthehighstreet.com

9. We LOVE dresses displayed on personalized hangers for a beautiful photo on the morning of the big day, and if you like the idea too – why not get it in motion by gifting your bridesmaids with their own personalized hanger when you pop the question? There are tons of versions of these hangers on sites such as Etsy.com, which can incorporate the girls’ names and your wedding date, but you could of course DIY your own! Paint a wooden hanger with glittery gold, or wrap it in sequins and add a simple corsage and note – bring out your creative side and who knows what you could come up with!
