Our very own Editor Joanna was lucky enough to visit Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa and here is what she has to say!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa and if you are after ultimate luxury it does not get more exotic or sumptuous than this. The resort is nestled on the south coast of Sri Lanka and it is simply paradise from the minute you arrive. The island’s rich cultural heritage is mirrored in the design of the hotel and the staff just can’t do enough!

A wedding in paradise…

Strolling around their expansive grounds, fringed with coconut palms, I can’t imagine anything more enchanting than a destination wedding here. The sea is crystal clear and the beach, although close to the hotel, is totally secluded and would be make a perfect beach wedding. Imagine warm sand under your feet while saying “I do” in front of all your loved ones.

If you are considering a larger more sumptuous wedding then their ballroom would be perfect. It is a stunning space with high ceilings and can hold up to 990 persons. If your guest list is more intimate then one of their smaller, but just as heavenly function rooms would be ideal. Whether big or small, inside or outside, their talented wedding planners will make sure that all your needs are catered for.

Sitting on the terrace of their Sera restaurant marvelling at their manicured lawns I was in awe of the gastronomic delight that the chef had prepared for us. Not only was the smell tantalizing my senses but the presentation was second to none. The attention to detail was fantastic. I have no doubt their dedicated banquets team will be able to create a perfect wedding feast, exactly to your desires, that will totally WOW your guests!

An exotic honeymoon…..

Shangri-La’s Hambantota Golf Resort & Spa would be a divine honeymoon hotel. There is plenty to see and do in the local area from a romantic moonlit stroll along the beach to visiting one of the fascinating wildlife sanctuaries.

However, my favourite spot was their Gimanhala Lounge for early evening drinks watching the sun going down. It was just bliss! You can book an exclusive private dinner on the beach which would be a great way to celebrate the start of married life.

I also spent a heavenly afternoon of pampering at the Chi Ayurveda Spa. Their range of treatments are sublime and even an hour or so there will transport you to another world. It is an excellent way to restore your balance of mind, body and spirit after the excitement of your wedding.
