10 Major Wedding Day Regrets And How To Avoid Them

The best way to avoid wedding day regrets is to speak to other brides who have been there and done that. However, there some wedding day regrets that we keep hearing over and over – so, here we have collected them and are sharing it with you, our dear readers. Here is our top 10 list of major wedding day regrets and ways to avoid them…

10. Not eating on the morning of the wedding

Most brides are extremely nervous on the Big Day and as result forget to eat a good breakfast. With the bridal makeup artist and hairstylists arriving early too, it’s easy to get swept away with all the excitement and by the time it is to take your vows, you might feel faint for all the wrong reasons. Make sure to eat a decent breakfast so you can enjoy the day and not worry about a growling tummy mid-ceremony!

9. Not selecting a playlist for the DJ

Take the time to make a party song playlist which that yourself and guests will have a great time dancing to. We’ve heard stories where the DJs played the absolute wrong songs for instance ones that held special meaning for the groom and his ex. Now that’s not something you want…

 8. Ordering too much or too little food

The best way to avoid this is to make detailed lists of wedding attendees. Try to chase those down who’ll be attending as soon as you can – this will help you give a final head count to the caterer. Experienced caterers usually set aside a buffer of 10 extra above the number you’ve ordered; this way, you can account for unexpected guests as well.

7. Not planning the day well

It’s very important to make a timeline of the day so that there’s no reason to feel rushed or stressed or wonder what to do next. This is very important from the guests’ point of view as well so that there’s no unnecessary delays. A wedding timeline checklist is a bride’s best friend on her big day especially if you aren’t using a wedding planner so make sure to make one!

6. Not sticking to the budget

It can be tempting to allocate the budget to things that seem important at first glance, but aren’t. However, it’s crucial that you set aside a budget for things that matter the most such as your wedding photographs. These will give you lasting memories that you can revisit time and time again for years to come. So make sure to keep a chunk of your wedding budget for food and photography – two really important parts of a wedding.

5. Not chasing down the RSVPs

We already mentioned why it’s essential to get those RSVPs in – you simply cannot plan your wedding properly unless you know the final guest count. So, word the invitation correctly, set a deadline for RSVPs and call those guests who haven’t replied to the invites even after the deadline has passed.

4. Not meeting all the guests on the wedding day

Your guests have gone out of their way to be there so it can be nice to make time to greet them. You can always formally thank them later for attending your wedding, but it’s important to hug all those people who mean so much to you. This is a major regret for many brides who failed to set aside time for this important task on their wedding day.

3. Not hiring a videographer

There are so many things happening while you’re busy with your ceremony, or your photo sessions or even while you’re getting ready. A videographer can capture all these little events and moments, so you can relive them, you’ll never regret being able to look back at you and your fiancé(e)’s expressions and hearing those words as you say your vows. We cannot recommend this enough! Hiring a wedding videographer is the best thing you can do and not doing so is a major wedding day regret for many.

2. Not setting aside time to enjoy the day with each other and with immediate family

You must spend some time with your parents and siblings (maybe on the morning of the wedding) and don’t forget your new husband or wife. The day will fly by so try and savour the feeling of being married by taking some time – even a short walk by yourselves before you slip away in the getaway car.

1. Letting others influence your decisions too much

This is especially true while selecting the wedding dress. So many brides have said “ I looked okay, but given a choice, I’d go back and choose the other dress I loved”. So make sure you select the dress you really want and don’t let other people question your judgement. The best way to avoid this is to take just one or two close friends shopping with you instead of a huge party. Another thing you can do is not make the decision immediately; try on a few dresses before zeroing in on the one you love the most.
