Making your UAE Wedding More Charitable

In the UAE we are surrounded by organisations working tirelessly to make a difference in the lives of those in need. The Islamic pillar of ‘zakat’, to give a percentage of wealth to those less fortunate has played and continues to play a significant part in the history and lives of Muslims. And for non-Muslim members of society in the UAE, Charity is something embedded in the culture of this nation.

If you already have two toasters and are looking for an unconventional wedding registry – perhaps consider setting up an account for your favorite charity. There will of course be some guests that would feel much more comfortable with a traditional ‘physical’ gift so another option could be to run a gift registry (try MyList.ae) alongside your charity registry. You could include the details on your wedding invitation or upload onto your Wedding Website.

Another idea might be to forgo traditional wedding favors and instead consider making a charitable donation on behalf of your closest friends and families to commemorate your Big Day! You could make up a thank you card for each guest so they know about your gift or leave a few cards with info about your chosen charity on the tables so guests know about your kind gesture.

There are countless charities in need of support in the UAE and abroad which is why charity wedding favors are such a great idea. Here is a list of fantastic registered charities locally who would love to work with you to celebrate your Big Day.

1. Has your life been touched with cancer?

Then Make-A-Wish United Arab Emirates would be a perfect donor for you and your fiancé(e) and a way to honor the wishes of those going through such hard-ship. For more information visit www.makeawish.ae or Phone 02 666 5144

Breast Cancer Arabia supports women living in countries of the Middle East regardless of nationality and socio-economic status, and helps them access breast cancer services when they are unable to afford their treatment costs. To help them, contact http://breastcancerarabia.com/donate/.

2. Keeping it close to home

The UAE Red Crescent Chaired by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan since 1986, works to help those locally in the UAE on a number of crucial humanitarian projects. Visit www.rcuae.ae for more information on donating and their cause.

3. For the animal lovers

For those that have fur babies and want to help other less fortunate pups and kitties, these two organisations are a great start:

K9 Friends and Feline Friends work to rescue and re-home stray, abandoned and mistreated animals. They also work to educate the public on the proper care and vaccination of animals in the UAE. Visit www.k9friends.com and www.felinefriendsdubai.com for more information.

This is Maverick – one of the adorable pups looking for love from K9 Friends….

There are countless other oh-so worthy organisations so we suggest you do some research and find a cause close to the heart of you and your fiancé(e) – a small way to give back for the blessings you’ve been given and to celebrate your love.
