Questions To Ask Your Wedding Planner

To most brides, the wedding planner is the ‘know-it-all’ expert who can bring a dream wedding to life. Irrespective of whether you want the wedding planner to take over just one tiny aspect of the wedding planning or organize every little detail from scratch, you’ll be liaising with this person a lot before the Big Day so it makes sense to spend some time choosing the right one. Here are a few essential questions to ask your wedding planner before booking their services…

Availability:

The first obvious question is whether he/she is available on your wedding date. It doesn’t make sense to hire a wedding planner who already has his or her hands full and if there’s a planner you feel you absolutely must have on your side, then changing your wedding date is an option you can consider as well.

Involvement:

If the wedding planner is able to accommodate planning your wedding, then the next question to ask is whether he or she will personally oversee all the details and will be your first point of contact or if you’ll be working with another junior employee on the team (naturally you may be dealing with other team members now and again but you should be dealing with the planner on a regular basis too). If the main person at the firm is unavailable to attend to your wedding preparations, it makes sense to look for another wedding planner.

Fee:

Talking about expenses is never a comfortable topic but when it comes to the wedding planner, don’t hesitate to ask exactly how much their services will cost you. A good wedding planner will have contacts with reputed vendors as well as with hotels and wedding halls which they may be able to pass on to you with their services so don’t forget to factor this in if that’s the case. Some wedding planners may also offer special rates at certain times of the year or have basic wedding plans which may be more budget friendly.

Input:

Give them an idea of the kind of wedding you would like to have and ask the wedding planner for his or her inputs on how to make it better. Good wedding planners stay on top of trends and know what works and what won’t. They’re always willing to share their thoughts on how you can make your wedding better. Just by listening carefully to their ideas, you’ll understand just how well you will or won’t be able to work with them when it comes to your wedding.

Reviews & References:

Don’t hesitate to ask the wedding planner about other weddings that he or she has worked on. Most planners have a portfolio put together which highlights different aspects of a wedding they have worked on such as décor and catering. Take a look at their portfolio and ask for references from clients they have worked with as well. A good wedding planner with a sound reputation will not hesitate to put you in touch with other clients. Beware of wedding planners who act suspicious or uncomfortable when you ask for references.
