Three Restriction-Friendly Wedding Ceremonies, by UAE Celebrant Affinity Fair.

The past 12 months have seen some serious restrictions placed on wedding celebrations, but an intimate, personalised ceremony is something which can always go ahead!

Zu Gatward of Affinity Fair is a trained celebrant, based in Dubai for the last 13 years, who specialises in creating that special touch which is unique to you and your partner. She understands the importance of making the ceremony your own, with your own vows and promises to each other, personalised readings, music and so much more! During the pandemic, she was still able to give couples the romantic ceremony they wanted, whilst adhering to regulations and making sure that safety was a priority. Here are three examples of the weddings she officiated during that time, in her own words…

Omar & Zein

I had a couple of firsts with this wedding. It was my first Covid friendly ceremony where all 20 guests had to take a PCR test prior to the ceremony and must have their masks on during the ceremony. It was also the first time that the Nikki Beach Club opened for a wedding. They are the sweetest couple you could possibly want to work with. Everyone got teary-eyed when the groom presented the bride with a beautiful necklace at the end of the ceremony which took her completely by surprise.

Keiran & Allana

This couple had everything thrown at them; Covid, travel bans, and restrictions on wedding events in UAE. The silver lining was that they both had their immediate families here before the travel restrictions were enforced. So after having to jump through so many hoops with getting legally married at the church here, we conducted the ceremony in Al Seef. The first for me as they got special use of a semi-public area before jumping onboard the beautiful 38m Babylon yacht to cruise around Dubai!

Chrislain & Shalene

A very excited groom was planning this wedding as the bride travels a lot as a cabin crew. Very interesting planning the ceremony with the groom minus the bride but we got there! They both wrote their own vows and I decided to gift them an engraved version of their vows which they loved! They also requested a handfasting ritual and I created a ceremonial ribbon with their wedding colours and their initials.
