Plans can go haywire. Details can run awry. Arrangements can fail. And the most carefully planned, detailed, and arranged wedding or reception can meet with a disaster or two. Despair not. Disasters too can be pre-empted and you will find a way out…
Double-check against double-booking – at your venue. You don’t want to end up getting emotional at someone else’s wedding! A week in advance, visit the venue personally or have someone reliable do it to ensure everything is in order. The same goes for caterers, florists, photographers, and other vendors. Touch base to ensure that you’re all on the same page.
Scan the skies – Or your weather app for the forecast for your wedding day. El Ninos and La Ninas are like your not-so-favourite aunt – you can’t write her off totally, so you just need to steel yourself. Be ready with rain gear and have a bunch of umbrellas on standby so the star couple can be caught on camera frolicking in the rain (we’ve seen some seriously gorgeous wedding snaps taken during a downpour!)
How lovely were my flowers – is not what you want to sigh, as you watch the wilting blooms! Will your flowers stand the test of heat and humidity? Is your venue really suitable for ice sculptures? Will the salad decoration attract only flies? Consider the practicalities of your décor and be flexible about what’s doable.
Hang the dress – and we mean literally have it hanging ready in your closet well before the Big Day! Online orders can get goofed up, or your dressmaker could have a medical emergency, so keep your dress prêt-à-porter in every sense.
Best Dressed – Know beforehand what your immediate family and in-laws plan to wear, so the bride and groom’s mothers can avoid colour clashes or embarrassing duplicates! Be sure to also line up dress, hair and makeup trials for yourself in advance of the wedding so there’s no unexpected surprises on the day.
Be ring ready – you don’t want to have to nudge your ring bearers as they fumble about in their pocket or purse! If you’re planning to exchange rings, check that your bearer has the rings before you leave the house and is ready to hand them to you the moment it’s time to say “I do.”
Keep your wedding child-friendly – so there will be nothing to wipe that angelic smile off your face!
Children will run wild and get hyper-active – as they should. If you anticipate a large child population, borrow some birthday party ideas like a face-painting/tattoo/henna artist. Have separate food and seating arrangements. Remember they are valued guests too.
