How To Have An Unplugged Wedding

We live in a world where moments are uploaded there and then for everybody to see. Sure, you don’t think twice about uploading a picture of the girls and yourself enjoying an ice-cream on Facebook but personal, or potentially unflattering snaps of yourself – probably not. Unplugged weddings are becoming more and more popular for this reason – some couples would like the opportunity to vet photos first, others would rather their guests were fully present during the ceremony and not snapping away on their iPhone.

Calling for a social media ban on your wedding day or having an unplugged wedding is an option more and more couples are exploring, especially if all that you want the world to see are the professionally shot photographs that you’ve paid for. Whether you want guests to refrain from posting on Social Media or want an all out ban on cameras at your Big Day (or ceremony only), here’s how you can prepare your guests…

Mention it on your wedding website – A quick and easy way to get the message out there is to post something on your wedding website. Keep it casual and friendly, whether you’re looking to ban cameras altogether or just asking guests to refrain from posting on Facebook.

Mention it in the wedding invitation – Your invites are another easy way to get your message across. There’s no harm in politely adding in a line asking guests to refrain from clicking away or uploading snaps on Social Media. You’ll find plenty of great wording options online which are emotional and funny so don’t worry about your guests taking offence at your request.

Spread the word – There’s the possibility that many of your guests may not have attended an unplugged wedding before and aren’t really sure what the term means. Ask you mom or an aunt to spread the word amongst the guests before the Big Day so that they’re well prepared.

Put up friendly reminders – Seeing is believing and when you put up friendly reminders all over the wedding venue, your guests will be encouraged and motivated to take heed. This way, you’re less likely to be confronted with a flashing iPhone in your face as you say your vows. And if a guest does misbehave, get someone to politely remind him or her about the unplugged rule.

Talk to your Photographer  Just like you want dozens of photos of the occasion, so too do your guests! Talking to your photographer before the event and ask him/her get lots of lovely snaps of guests so that you can share them about afterwards. You could create a folder online or even include some in thank you cards.
