Wedding Makeover with Styling by Susan

You may remember not so long ago we ran a competition to a win a hair and makeup session with the lovely Susan Sutherland of Styling by Susan. A pre-wedding makeup trial is always a great idea, not only is it a chance for a little bit of pampering amidst the wedding madness but trying out various hair or makeup options before the Big Day means you’re stress free on the day itself, and know exactly what to expect. Check out the gorgeous results of our lovely reader Faitma’s hair and makeup trial below and some useful tips as well…

Get the Look

1. Susan used some fab products courtesy of Max Factor for Fatima’s pre-wedding beauty session! Susan recommends starting with a primer to improve your foundation’s staying power – Max Factor’s Facefinity All Day Primer (it has an SPF20 in there as well which will keep your skin protected all day long) is a great investment. Both the primer and their Skin Luminizer foundation are super easy to use and blend and give you that gorgeous, flawless finish you’re after as a bride.

2. If you’ve pesky under eye circles that need covering from too many hours on Pinterest or have been travelling as was the case with Fatima, Susan swears by Max Factor’s Eye Luminizer which masks under eye shadows.

3. Your wedding day look is always about being the best version of yourself so when it comes to colours, it’s best to stick to ones you feel comfortable with. Fatima prefers nude lips so Flushed Fuschia by Max Factor was the perfect choice, staying true to Fatima’s style. See the beautiful results below!

To help you prepare for your own wedding makeup trial, we asked Susan to share some useful info…

How far in advance should you book a trial?

Once you have chosen your dress, head-dress and veil. Makeup should be the cherry on the top!

What are the benefits of having a makeup trial?

To ensure that your makeup will look flawless on the day and that there will be no ‘surprises’. It’s also a great way to check that there are no allergies or reactions to products like eyelash glue.

How long does a trial last?

Usually about 60 mins. Some girls want a natural look but end up loving a more dramatic eye or bright red lip! It’s a great chance to play around with some looks.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Possibly a favourite foundation, lipstick or gloss. I’m happy to use your own products if you’re more comfortable with particular products.

Is it best to wear white to the trial if I’ll be wearing a white dress on my wedding day?

Yes, it’s a very good idea as you will get a much better idea on how the makeup will look on the day.

Do you recommend bringing a friend along for helpful advice?

Yes why not! I always suggest the Bride makes the most of her pretty hair and makeup so plan a shopping trip, lunch or dinner! Fatima went onto have her dress fitting and she said it was lovely to try her gown on looking so pretty with her hair and makeup done!
