The largest and one of the oldest churches in Bratislava, the capital city of Slovakia, is St. Martin’s Cathedral. It is also the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bratislava situated in the picturesque historical old town below the Castle and known mostly for being the coronation church of the Kingdom of Hungary for almost 300 years.
The city also offers a unique opportunity to have a civil wedding ceremony in the Klarisky church – it is a picturesque gothic church also located in the historical city center, which has been deconsecrated and is no longer used for the celebration of mass. The Treaty of Bratislava between France and Austria was signed here on 26 December, 1805 by Napoleon. The neo-classical Zichy Palace was formerly owned by Count Franz Zichy. . In the early 19th century the composer Heinrich Marschner, one of the founders of German Romantic opera, served as a music teacher for the Zichy family.Now it serves as a venue for civil wedding ceremonies and cultural events
