Expert Q&A | Ananda Shakespeare | Celebrant

wedding celebrant

Gone are the days of one-size fits all, weddings have become more about personal choice, that is truly inspired by the couple and their life together. Be it a vintage theme, or a Bedouin weekender, each couple looks to make their day personal and meaningful, and just really about them. A Wedding led by a Wedding Celebrant offers you the chance to have your ceremony, your way.

No two relationships are the same, every couple’s journey of love is unique and special. Everything you’ve ever dreamt your wedding to be, a wedding celebrant can make this a reality. Tradition is what you’re making with your partner. You’re coming from different worlds, different beliefs, and different paths, but when you met, you started your story. Your wedding is a celebration of your journey so far, as well as, your continuing adventure in life together. Your ceremony becomes more than just a date and a booking!

We have been lucky enough to speak to British award-winning public speaker, Ananda Shakespeare a UAE based celebrant. She explains how she can help you plan your ceremony exactly how you’d like it. Personal, about you, to your timing and your choice of location. No longer are you restricted by choice of ceremony! Hooray!

Tell us a little bit about yourselves and what inspired you to become a marriage celebrant?

It was when I realised that I speak for a living recently. I am originally a journalist, PR, DJ, emcee, voice-over artist and tour guide. All these professions are talk-related. It made complete sense to me that I developed my speaking career by studying to become a celebrant.

What advice or tips do you have for couples searching for a celebrant?

Like all services, secure testimonials. Also book a celebrant that either has a lot of experience or someone who has studied with the UK Society of Celebrants, like me.

When do you recommend couples should book their celebrant?

Six to twelve months in advance is plenty of time. You want to have an initial meeting where the celebrant will ask you lots of questions – the celebrant will have a checklist to go through with you so that the day goes smoothly.

How can you help a couple create their perfect wedding ceremony?

With ideas! I can help you choose the perfect poem, reading or music lyrics. I can write the vows for you, if you like and help you choose elements to include in your ceremonies like handfasting, unity candle or a rose ceremony, for example.

Where are some of your favourite venues/settings in the UAE?

In Dubai, the Park Hyatt garden, it’s so private and pretty by day and night. The Desert Palm Polo Club, as it’s really atmospheric having stables nearby. In Abu Dhabi, I like Yas Links Golf Club as there is a beautiful backdrop of the mangroves.

Three words that best describe you as a person?

Hardworking, fun and alternative.
