Dessert tables are a big trend in the US but they’re slowly trickling in to the wedding scene worldwide as a fun and tasty way to dish up dessert. Dessert tables are great for several reasons – they of course look amazing and create a stunning focal point for the reception space, they’re a novelty for guests and will give them lots of yummy options to choose from come dessert time, and if you want to leave paper bags for take-home treats, they could even double as a wedding favour. Dessert tables can also be a bit of a DIY project! If you’ve family and friends that can whip a delicious cheesecake, it could be very sweet to showcase their culinary creations and let them help you with the wedding preparations.
So just what do you fill your dessert bar with? The options are endless from your favourite cakes and pies to cupcakes, brownies, donuts, sugar cookies, cake pops, macarons and jars of sweets. But you don’t have to stop there, if your all time favourite treats are crêpes, you could fashion your dessert table in to a crêpe station or if you love ice cream (or frozen yoghurt if you’re trying to be good), you could put together a bit of sundae bar with lots of delicious toppings for guests to drizzle over their chosen scoop.
When it comes to styling your table, make it stand out with some pretty balloons, banners, tassels, bunting and signage – a sequinned or sparkly table cloth will provide a glamorous base while some decadent cake stands will ensure it looks the part and easily displays the sweet treats for all to see. And of course your table doesn’t have to be a table exactly, if you’re looking to make your dessert space all the more interesting your can turn an old dresser in to a decadent dessert display or even some old suitcases for a vintage-inspired wedding party. If you’re after some inspiration for your own dessert table display, take a peek at these oh-so-pretty displays…
