“As we started to enjoy our meal, I heard the entire restaurant gasp only to find out that right next to me there was a diver in the aquarium tank holding up a sign saying, “Will you marry me?” as Chris got on one knee with the ring.”
The couple: Natasha Mayne Fernandez & Chris Fernandez
Length of engagement: 6 years | Wedding date: January 29 2015
Wedding venue: Mina A’Salam, Dubai
Photographer: Itsoura Motion & Stills
We met… Our families always knew each other but Chris lived in Canada and I was in Dubai. The last time I had seen him was when I visited Canada as a seven year old and then 14 years later, we bumped into each other in Dubai.
Our proposal… He took me to the Burj Al Arab for lunch and we were seated right by the large aquarium tank at the Al Mahara restaurant. As we started to enjoy our meal, I heard the entire restaurant gasp only to find out that right next to me there was a diver in the aquarium tank holding up a sign saying, “Will you marry me?” as Chris got on one knee with the ring.
Our outfits… I wanted something timeless but elegant and I found the perfect dress during my trip to Spain at Pronovias. Chris wore a tuxedo by Tom Ford.
We chose our photographer because… I really loved Itsoura Motions & Stills work! Both their photographs and videos were great and even though it took me quite a while to find them, it was worth it!
We chose our wedding coordinator because… Sarah and Ruby from Couture Events are simply fantastic! They know our family very well as we’ve used Couture Events to plan several of our events in the past. They are extremely organized and professional and each time they just outdo themselves!
We chose our venue because… the Mina A’Salam had the best ballroom that could comfortably accommodate our large number of guests. We also hosted different themed events at venues such as the Bab Al Shams, Zabeel Saray and Waldorf Astoria as our wedding was a 5 day affair and we wanted to leave our out of town guests with a truly unforgettable experience of Dubai.
My piece of advice for other brides… Make sure to pick a great photography and videography company because in the end, that’s all you are left with. In order to save time, decide on the layout of your family pictures in advance so you don’t miss out on anyone. All in all do your best but don’t stress on the minor mishaps as once your wedding week arrives make sure to let go, have fun, smile, dance and enjoy it!
