We met…

We met and were introduced through the families- our families have known each other through the generations and many marriages have been arranged between both families internally so our families knew each other. We met on the 17th of April for the first time and said yes on the 19th of April just within two days – we hit it off immediately and knew that were meant to be together!

Our proposal…

Since it was an arranged marriage we didn’t have a formal proposal however we had a few pre-wedding engagement parties in Hyderabad. We had a beautiful 2 day event in Hyderabad that was mainly a royal Indian theme; a beautiful evening with live singers and an elegant royal setup. We made our engagement official at this event!

Our wedding theme/colours…

Day 1:

We had several events in a row and it was a non-stop party for four days, which started with the welcome on day 1. Our guests mostly started flying into Abu Dhabi and arrived at the hotel. Most guests flew in from India and a handful from the US and Europe. Our hospitality team welcomed our guests at the airport and transported everyone to the hotel in their respective cars. Once the guests arrived at the hotel we welcome them with dhol players and dancers and flower necklaces – the welcome to the hotel itself started with a bang- the party began at arrival!

The first evening was a Night in Marakesh themed giving our guests a taste of Arabia. We had an entire Morrocan setup that was larger than life- it truly felt like we have stepped into the Arabian World. We had large tents and an entire bazaar setup where guests sampled the different qualities of Arabian honey- authentic oud bottles – a spice bazaar and Arabian shawls and fabrics- all the favours were packed for the guests and they carried them back as giveaways. We entered with a Zaffeh dance group of 15 dancers and drummers that danced, skipped and cartwheeled their way into the venue. We also had a tanour dancer, a derwish dancer, and a fire dancer in addition to the quintessential belly dancers. The guests were further entertained by the enthusiastic energy of Rooh Band.

Day 2:

We started the morning off at 11am with a pool party. Since our wedding hashtag was #FoundNemo – our pool party was a finding Nemo-themed event. We entered amidst a parade of cheering family and friends on a large lifesize oyster! Our guests picked out hats, glasses, boho jewelry and other trinkets from gift karts to be in theme. It was an absolute blast all after as we dancer away, played giant games like Jenga and pool games and danced under the Raindance setup. We were entertained by dancers and mermaids alongside the Dj’s tunes and Walters beats!

The evening was a grand sangeet and cocktail celebration. It was a formal event in red and gold décor quite romantic in style with large centrepieces sporting exquisite floral arrangements in red and gold, beautiful gold tables and chairs and candles almost everywhere. The bar setup was stunning and inviting- the stage was an entire LED screen setup. Our family started their dances on stage and we entered through a split-screen on stage- we had special graphics developed for our entrance and it was quite stunning. Our performers were famous Bollywood singers and composers Sachin Jigar that set the stage on fire and had us dancing till 4 am! Post-Sangeet we retired to the club at the hotel to continue dancing and ended the party at sunrise.

Day 3:

It was a beautiful morning – slightly sunny and with a light breeze. We had our haldi ceremony amidst a cluster of olive trees at the olive garden at the Ritz- the setup was dreamy and beautiful with the pandits chants in the background.

Mohits baraat started at 3pm and last for almost two hours. He came in traditionally on a horse with friends and family dancing alongside. We had a whole troop of drummers and a DJ truck accompanying the baraat to the mandap.

For the wedding itself, I entered with my family under a flower chadar on romantic music. We exchanged our varmalas on a special stage erected for this purpose – as soon as we exchanged our varmalas the pyros set off on all 6 sides in celebration of completing the first step of the wedding.

Our mandap was floral in design and setup on the beach- just the perfect setup to get married!

We had the Ganga Arti troop from Varanasi in India come and chant auspicious prayers during our wedding pheras and have an Arti with large trays of fires and diyas. This experience was almost surreal and we alongside the guests were transported to another time- another realm. It felt like we were blessed by all the ancient gurus and gods and we’d gone back in time.

The wedding was followed by a reception which was an enchanted garden-themed event. All our relatives greeted us and we had a band from India singing upbeat songs to keep our guests entertained. We also had a tarot card reader and coffee fortune teller that was a major hit with the guests!

After a thrilling 4 days of non-stop excitement we were finally driven away in a vintage Rolls Royce at the end of the night!

We chose our photographer because…

We loved his style- he captures true moments and his team is extremely professional – he has also covered weddings in the family before and we trusted him

We chose our wedding planners because…

My Dad and uncles along with Mohit’s uncle and brother mainly planned the wedding- they visited UAE several times and met with almost all suppliers within the wedding industry- we chose our planners because they were very creative and worked with us on the designs, easy to deal with and extremely responsive.

My piece of advice for other brides…

It’s your big day, plan ahead and relax and enjoy every moment as when it all fades away just the memories will remain with you.
