Painting Love | Q&A with artist Darine Semaan

As I’m sure everyone will tell you, your wedding day goes by so fast, so it’s wonderful to have photographers to document crucial moments throughout the day. However, more and more often couples are looking for a more unique and entertaining way to capture the overall feel of their wedding, and there is no way more artistic then to have a live artist!

Darine Semaan is one such artist. Hailing from Lebanon, she has been honing her talents for over a quarter of a century, and loves nothing more than to capture the love and energy of a couples very special day. We met up with her to learn a little more about her work, and view some of her wonderful creations.

How long have you been an artist?

It’s been around 26 years. When I was a teenager I used to draw at school in small expos, and since then I developed my skills and began painting.

Tell us about your business, when and where did you start?

My journey in art was exhibiting in exhibitions since 2009 in Lebanon. I soon realised that by using Acrylic materials, the paint would dry quickly, so the idea of live painting came to me.

How long does it take you to paint a couple?

Around 3 to 4 hour usually.

What should a couple know about your services before they book you?

In my art I focus on capturing the mood and feel of the day in the way I portray the venue and the couple in their wedding attire. I live paint during the wedding itself, and at the end present the bride and groom with the finished product for the to take home and display.

How does the process work?

I start by painting the basic background on the canvas before the guests arrive, and then I begin on the couple once they arrive.

What is your favourite thing about what you do?

I love capturing the love and joyous atmosphere of a wedding. I especially enjoy seeing the look on the couples faces when they see their painting for the first time.
