We all love a good quote, ranging from inspirational ones to put up at work, ones about love for our home and some funny and quirky ones to gift to friends. Today we’ve rounded up some of our favourite love and wedding quotes. You can use them for your wedding vows, get them printed to hand out as wedding favours or even do a little DIY project for your first home and display one.
1. Audrey Hepburn is a timeless and ageless icon (after all she made the LBD what it is). We love her iconic line “The best thing to hold onto in life is each other”. So while jobs, homes and so many other things in life are transitory, real love is not, so holding onto that love of your life is definitely the best thing to do!
2. There aren’t too many people who haven’t come across great pearls of wisdom from Dr.Seuss. So while reading Green Eggs and Ham is a rite of passage for most kids along with some of his bestselling books, he definitely has it right when he says “You know you are in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams”. In short, if you have found the person of your dreams hold on and never let go.
3. A quote which is very popular in wedding vows and taken from the poem Love by Roy Croft shows how much we change for the better in love – “ I love you not only for what you are but for what I am with you”. Again very romantic and it just shows the lengths you will go for someone you deeply care about.
4. The movie Harry Met Sally tops a lot of avid movie watchers lists as one of the most romantic movies of all time. So when Nora Ephron wrote “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible” we all nodded yes. We are sure this rings true for many of you when you realized you had met the person you wanted to be with for life.
5. Author Richard Bach wrote “True love stories never have endings”. We agree, because true love endures and lasts forever. This would definitely be among our top picks to be used on wedding favours.
6. Jane Austen’s wrote one of our favourite love stories, that of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy. So while this quote is not from Pride and Prejudice, it is from another top read of hers, Emma – we would totally use it while toasting a dear friend- “ It is such happiness when good people get together –and they always do”
7. This quote gets our vote for being one of the most emotional ones. Lao Tzu wrote this centuries ago but it remains prevalent even today, “ Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage” We all know how much we are willing to give in love and sometimes having someone to love gives you enough courage as well as strength to get through difficult times.
8. Another quote to be used for a toast or as a little plaque is credited to Mignon McLaughlin, an American journalist who said “A successful marriage requires falling in love many times with the same person”. A long lasting marriage definitely means finding new ways to love your spouse over and over again.
9. We really like what Alicia Keys said – “Love me like you will never see me again”. Our take on this is to never take your love or life for granted. Cherish what you have and do it every day.
10. Our shortest pick of the lot is from the movie Jerry Maguire – “You had me at hello”. For those of you for whom it was love at first sight and you knew right away this was the person you were going to be with; this is a great quote to use as is or to change around.
We hope these wedding quotes have inspired some of you to write your own or reach out to your partner and floor him/her with one of these!
