Tone Up for Your Big Day with the White Dress Workout

We’re never ones to advocate losing weight on the lead up to the Big Day, unless of course it’s something you want to do but some brides feel more confident and comfortable in their dream dress if they’ve lost a few niggly pounds or toned up an area that was bothering them. If you are looking to tone up or get in shape in time for the Big Day, bridal bootcamps can be a fun and healthy way to meet your goals. We chatted to Jennie Law from White Dress Workout all about her bridal workout plans and popped along to a session to see Jennie and bride-to-be Libby in action…

The White Dress Workout – What’s Involved

How did you come up with the concept?

My fiancé and I are both personal trainers. We got engaged last year and as you can imagine, I have wedding related ideas on the brain most hours of the day. It got me thinking about brides-to-be who may want help with a dedicated training plan so I thought about designing a couple of different goal related distance workout plans specifically for brides who want to shape up on the lead up to the big day. I also wanted to make bridal themed personal training sessions available for brides-to-be here in Dubai and this lead me to create the B2B Bootcamp which is one-to-one or small group (cue bridesmaids) personal training sessions.

How far from the wedding should you begin?

The earlier the better. You will see far better results if you have a few months rather than a few weeks to reach your goals, however, if you do only have a few weeks, you’ll still be able to see a change if you put your mind to it.  Also, if you read The Foundations Guide to Nutrition Management & Flexible Dieting, you’ll still be able to enjoy your favourite foods and still lose weight.

Who are they designed for?

All workouts are designed for Brides-to-be of all ages who want to shape up for their wedding, providing they are fit and able to partake in exercise and have no pre-existing medical conditions that may impede them or get worse with training.

How do your programs work?

Many brides want to shape up for their big day but can’t always afford personal training sessions when saving for their wedding so the distance plans are an affordable way to help with this. In a nutshell, you visit the website and choose your workout plan based on your goals, timeframe and training location. For example, if you want to shift a few pounds then you can opt for ‘Fat Blitz’ which is designed to blitz fat by using different methods of cardio and resistance based exercises. You can choose to work out in the comfort of your own home or alternatively in the gym, and choose from a 4 week or 8 weeks plan. All plans come with full instructions, an exercise library for reference, and workout logs/body measurement and weight form to record your progress.

How long does a workout last and how many days a week are required?

I have designed the written distance plans for 4 days a week (2 on, 1 off, 2 on) and they last approximately 1 hour but it can vary from person to person. I understand that people have multiple commitments so it may not always be possible to stick to the set days but so long as you have a rest day between the muscle groups used in a workout, you can choose your days to suit you. Personalised distance plans and Dubai based B2B bootcamps are tailored to the client.

What type of results can you expect?

Depending on the client’s goal, results can vary and include weight loss, toning, building strength and muscle and an increase in overall fitness. Many brides-to-be may be apprehensive at the thought of building muscle but don’t be afraid, you won’t end up looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger. The truth is that the more muscle you have, the higher your metabolism will be which, in turn, helps to blitz that fat and sculpt those arms, legs and booty!

Bride-to-be Libby Shares Her Experience

How did you find the workout?

The workout was intense but in a very good way. I really felt the burn. Even though I found it tough, Jennie is so good at motivating you to keep going and power through.

What pushed you the most?

We did circuits and each time another exercise came round I really had to prepare myself. It was the squat jumps for me that were the real test.

How did you feel the next day?

The next day I actually felt great, a little sore but in a good way. I was in such a good mood when I woke up from a good workout and felt motivated to get to the gym again.

What is your current fitness regime?

When I find the time to work out I usually head to a Core fitness class or RPM. I manage to get there about twice a week.

What is your goal for your own wedding day?

I am planning on wearing a very fitted dress. I would love to tone up my whole body but my main focus at the moment is my core, arms and glutes so I look slender on the day.

Jennie’s Top Health & Fitness Tips for Brides-to-be

1. Start an exercise plan as far in advance of your wedding as possible to reap the most benefits and results. Introduce resistance exercises to your workouts along with the cardio to add variation and help blitz that fat and sculpt those muscles.

2. Set attainable goals for yourself. If you have something to aim for then this is a big motivator and what better goal than your wedding day!

3. Stress less – easier said than done I know but try not to stress over wedding planning and your weight too much as stress is a hormone that can slow the rate of results.

4. Nutrition, nutrition, nutrition. The fundamental foundation to any workout plan is the food that you put in your mouth. You will see results far quicker if you fuel your body with the nutrients it needs to perform at its optimum level!

5. Have patience – the road to weight loss or sculpting those shoulders, arms and legs is a slow one. Your body will be going through many changes when beginning an exercise program so if you don’t see results after the first couple of weeks, don’t give up! Stick with it, it is making a difference!

6. Have fun with it! Yes, exercise can be one of those things we keep putting off as it can be boring and too much effort (like the treamdmill) but hopefully with the WDW programs, you will start to enjoy exercising! I love setting myself challenges with circuits and being able to move up to the next weight with the resistance exercises is such a great feeling.

7. Get plenty of sleep. Your body uses the time you’re asleep to grow and repair so make sure you have plenty of interrupted sleep. This will also help with your mood and you’ll wake up reeling refreshed and ready to take on the day and the next workout!
